Ever since I was young, my dream of becoming an artist has never become a reality. When I reached my college years and I had to choose a major, my family did not support and understand my love and passion for studying art.
I was essentially dragged into getting a degree in business administration which I never enjoyed but I just accepted that path. Years later, when my husband, my daughter, and I moved to the U.S I realized that it was never too late to reach for your dreams and do what you love.
I started watching YouTube tutorials, enrolling in art classes with professional teachers, and going to art museums to observe, understand and study all of these artists’ paintings to find the inspiration I needed. I finally found a place and an incredible art teacher, Jackie Rueckert Lakely, at OPAL (Oak Park Art League) in Oak Park, Illinois, where I improved, refined, and received the best approach and guidance to continue my new endeavors as a Mixed Media Artist
"Color is a power which directly influences the soul"
- Kandinsky
There are many artists' works that inspire me, but what influences me the most is the colors of the four seasons of the year. Additionally, the intense blue of the ocean, the colors of the sunrise and sunset, leaves, trees, and flowers have a great impact in the process of creating my art. There are other elements that provoke ideas such as shapes, lines, and textures but what sparks my creativity the most is nature. The way I portray the beauty of nature is through the abstraction of what I see and the use of image transfer from photos I take.
Everyday, I explore, create, and spend hours with my favorites materials like acrylic paints, gouache paint, oil pastels, soft pastels, markers, and pencils. Along with Chinese inks, recycled paper and fine handmade papers, to create layers which are always the background for my pieces.
